Hydrodynamics and transport in estuaries and rivers by the CBS finite element method

چکیده
This paper presents an extension of the numerical solution of the shallow water equations by the characteristic split (CBS) finite element method to hydraulic engineering problems in estuaries and rivers. A nearly implicit version is formulated and tested and an efficient procedure to implement practical open boundary conditions in the CBS is proposed. This work includes a real numerical application for long term prediction of water quality in terms of salinity concentration in an estuary/river system to improve farmland irrigation given the detailed tidal/fresh water dynamics involved. Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamics of a Two-Dimensional Gas—Solid Fluidized Bed by New Finite Volume Based Finite Element Method
n this work, computational fluid dynamics of the flow behavior in a cold flow of fluidized bed is studied. An improved finite volume based finite element method has been introduced to solve the two-phase gas/solid flow hydrodynamic equations. This method uses a collocated grid, where all variables are located at the nodal points. The fluid dynamic model for gas/solid two-phase flow is based on ...

Study in surface water quality is important. Rivers are one of the main sources of water supply fordrinking, agriculture and industry. Unfortunately, sometime Rivers where wastewater dischargesare considered. For this reason, the pollutant transmission in river is one of the most importantproblems in Environmental Engineering. the Advection Dispersion Equation (ADE) is governedon the pollutant t...
متن کاملImplementation of a discontinuous Galerkin morphological model on two-dimensional unstructured meshes
The shallow water equations are used to model large-scale surface flow in the ocean, coastal rivers, estuaries, salt marshes, bays, and channels. They can describe tidal flows as well as storm surges associated with extreme storm events, such as hurricanes. The resulting currents can transport bed load and suspended sediment and result in morphological changes to the seabed. Modeling these proc...
متن کاملFastTABS Software for Evaluation of Wetlands Hydrodynamics
BACKGROUND: Rhers, reservoirs, and estuaries have been modeled for a number of years using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers TABS numerical modeling system. TABS is a family of numerical models that can simulate hydrodynamic, sediment, and constituent transport processes in these water bodies. One of the most attractive features of the TABS system is the ability to simulate wetting and drying of...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Seepage Flow through Dam Foundation Using Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics Method (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this paper, a mesh-free approach called smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is proposed to analyze the seepage problem in porous media. In this method, computational domain is discredited by some nodes, and there is no need for background mesh; therefore, it is a truly meshless method. The method was applied to analyze seepage flow through a concrete dam foundation. Using the SPH method, the...
